Last night at midnight was the filing deadline for the second quarter. Our campaign did very well, receiving an average online donation of $40. But then we noticed something this morning - - My opponent's average online donation was $700.
In NY-13, we’re fighting a battle - - It's the People vs. the Powerful. I'm a Progressive Democrat backed by Progressive organizations and local organizations.
My primary opponent is a Bush Democrat who is pro-war and against marriage equality. He’s also the preferred choice of the political machine and Washington insiders.
When your average donation is $700, you can’t say that you’re running to represent the people. You don't represent the father who has to decide which one of his children receives healthcare, you don't represent the college graduate who wonders how in the world they will pay off her loans, and you don't represent those who are already invisible to the people in power.
I’m asking you to donate whatever amount you can to help us counterbalance all of those $700 donations.
It's not enough anymore to just elect a Democrat. It's time to elect Democrats with democratic principles and democratic values. Help us send a message that Washington insiders and the political machine shouldn’t run the system - - The people won't be ignored.
Because we, as Democrats, can and must do better.
